It is with regret that we announce the passing of Carman Alan Whittington who died in December. He was a dedicated leader and passionate advocate for the transport sector. As President of The Institute of Transport Administration (IoTA), Chairman Greg Powell says “Alan was a dedicated leader and passionate advocate for the transport sector. His vision, expertise and commitment shaped our institute and inspired countless professionals throughout his career. Our thoughts are with Alan’s family and friends during this difficult time, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.” An online book of remembrance can be found here.
The family would like invite friends of Alan Whittington and members of the transport industry who he has known, supported, or worked with, to join him and his family as he makes his final journey to the ‘crew room’ in the sky on Wednesday 28 January 2026.

Gathering and Memories – from 1300 at Knights Hill Hotel, Kings Lynn PE30 3HQ – please gather at Knights Hill Hotel to be joined by those attending committal service so we can celebrate his memory together.
As there is no parking at the church, or in the village (very narrow roads) they kindly ask people to use a special park-and-ride using vintage buses which will run from Knights Hill Hotel.
For those who cannot use the P&R (e.g. mobility reasons), they will make arrangements to hire a nearby area at a farm in the village. So that they can manage all the transport arrangements please RSVP to walpole1949@gmail.com at your soonest convenience.
Alan has requested he prefers bright colours to be worn rather than black, to celebrate the wonderful experiences of his life.
