Once you have got yourself settled in and taken advantage of the facilities or even a spa treatment, you will be prepared for the formal programme to begin.
Friday 24 June
A short stroll to the unparalleled 14th century Merchant Adventurers Hall. We start with a champagne reception, followed by a sumptuous dinner. The Great Hall, which makes an excellent setting for dining with Bradshaw’s Caterers, provides us with a delicious silver service dinner. The Company of Merchant Adventurers has an unbroken history of business within the City of York, operating from the Hall since 1357. Dress code is Black Tie. Champagne reception & dinner £98pp. Wines may be purchased 6pm -10pm
Saturday 25 June
A behind the scenes tour and refreshments at the National Railway Museum where Liveryman and NRM Trustee, Graham Miller, will be one of our excellent guides. Visit the vast halls of giant locomotives at the National Railway Museum in York. Escape your home and dive into the past, present and future of the railways. Meet world-changing inventions like Rocket and come face to face with the fastest steam locomotive in the world, the Mallard and the most famous steam engine in the world, the Flying Scotsman, where you can experience the thrill of being on the footplate in an exhilarating simulator ride. Dress code casual. Admission and tour £10pp. 10am – 12noon.
The evening, we are off to the York Mansion House. This is the oldest official residence of the Lord Mayor in the country. The evening starts with a private tour and drinks reception followed by delicious dinner in the State Room at the 18th century Georgian House.
During the tour we will be allowed to tour across the four floors of York Mansion House where Georgian elegance is found in abundance.
Walking up the steps, which are dipped from hundreds of years of footsteps, you are welcomed into a light, open, beautiful home designed with entertaining at its heart. With so much to discover from the incredible historic kitchen downstairs to the galleries of shining silver at the top of the house, we will get to make ourselves at home for a truly spectacular occasion.
We will have a drinks reception just off the vast hallway in the dining room, an elegant welcoming space that has played host to intimate private dinners and infamous raucous parties since the house first opened in 1732.
We will dine in the State Room. This magnificent room is the pinnacle of grandeur in York and the jewel in the crown of the Mansion House. Climb the grand staircase to find an exemplary example of Georgian elegance. This immaculately restored space is the perfect location for our delicious dinner, surrounded by grand portraits of royalty and Lord Mayor’s and striking gold pilasters. Overlooking Saint Helens Square, this is a fabulous location. Dress code Black Tie. Champagne reception & dinner £98pp Wines may be purchased 6pm -10pm
Sunday 26 June
After breakfast we will take a leisurely cruise along the river before those that are departing take their leave. Dress code casual. Private charter with Captain’s commentary including coffee / tea & cake £15pp 10am – 12noon
Accommodation
The five star The Grand York offers the ultimate in luxury. On-site the Rise Restaurant and Bar is a 3AA Rosette Restaurant that also offers a taster menu. The Spa at the Grand is set in the atmospheric vaults where the North Eastern Railway Company once told its millions. The hotel only has has 207 rooms.
Please book your rooms directly with the hotel and to get the preferential rates, please advise them you are with the Worshipful Company of Carmen. Any guest contacting the hotel will now be offered available rooms charged at the best available rate on offer to the general public at that point.
