Relive the 500+ year old ceremony of Cart Marking with The Worshipful Company of Carmen. There is no other event like it. You will have the chance to see a fine collection of vehicles from ancient to modern, handcarts, horses and carts, steam-driven vehicles to electric, solar-powered and hydrogen vehicles. Livery Masters will attend in their official robes and chains and we hope the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs, as well as other City of London Corporation officials, can again attend in full regalia to add to the spectacle. Our main events on the day are free for the general public and Carmen to watch and enjoy.
Following the ceremony of Cart Marking Carmen and their guests can enjoy lunch in the main dining room. Home to the City of London Corporation and still the centre of government in the City of London, the impressive Grade 1 listed Guildhall provides the perfect setting for this prestigious occasion.
Once the last cart has passed through the famous arch in the Guildhall Yard, Carmen and their guests can attend a reception in the spacious Old Library and adjoining Print Room, built in 1872 and once home to 126,000 books, illustrating the introduction of printing into England. The north-end stained-glass window, as well as the high-vaulted ceiling and columns, allow plenty of natural light into this impressive room.
Luncheon will be served in the main dining room, which never fails to impress whether its your first visit or your 50th visit. The ticket price is £120 per person (including VAT).
