The fellowship of our members, along with the continued education, development and support of the people, industries, organisations and charities in which we are involved is of great importance to us. We raise funds and provide appropriate arenas to assist our members and associates. We do this in a fun and enjoyable manner at our many events and activities that help us achieve this. The photograph below is a pre COVID-19 event at the Mansion House and shows the loving cup being shared.
To encourage fellowship, we foster three clubs or societies which organise events for members with shared interests.
The Carmen’s Car Club, as the name suggests, is for Carmen who have an interest in cars of all eras. There is no membership fee; as a Carman you have automatic entry to the Club and its events. You don’t need to own a notable car, or any car at all; just have an interest in motoring.
Every year our members, their families and friends spend social time enjoying trips to automotive venues in the UK and Europe. Some of the many places visited in the past include Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Mini and Morgan production plants as well as collections such as the Louwman Museum in The Hague. We have also visited private collections, including our very own Jack Henley’s Toy Box. We were even invited to join the 75th Liberation parade in Guernsey!
Please let us know if you are interested in joining our highly sociable group, the Carmen’s Car Club, by clicking here.
The Carmen’s Golfing Society is also open to anyone in the Company regardless of their ability. Currently there are some 60 members and the main events each year are:
- The Prince Arthur Trophy, played at Walton Heath
- The RLC Match which pits the Society against the Royal Logistic Corps and the Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers at the Army Golf Club, Aldershot
- The Annual Golf Day which is open to all Carmen and their guests and is always a relaxed and enjoyable day
- The Bruce Owen Memorial Charity Golf Day (held in alternate years)
- An Annual Dinner is held in February at Southwark’s historic George Inn.
The Carmen Singers are a fun and lively group; and always open to new members. They support our events with music, bringing great pleasure to those present. Over the years, the Carmen Singers have partnered with a number of key organisations that have been the lifeblood of our foundations in transport in the UK. One such organisation is Royal Mail, where the journey through time can be seen below in the photos dated circa 1500 and the other dated 2021. Special behind the scenes events have been a great privilege to take part in and give a great insight to many of our industry partners.
