THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED.  If you wish to attend, please contact the Deputy Clerk to see if there has been any cancellations.

Now is your chance to visit RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

Whilst the Defence Movements Training Squadron is a Carmen’s affiliated unit, there is also the opportunity to visit No 1 Air Mobility Wing.

DEFENCE MOVEMENTS TRAINING SQUADRON

In 2002 Carmen became formally affiliated with the RAF Movements School, now the Defence Movements Training Squadron, part of the Defence College of Support. Located at RAF Brize Norton, the squadron is primarily responsible for RAF and Army movements training, but also has trainees from all of the Services, including overseas students and some civilians. The Squadron annually delivers 35 courses to approx. 1300 students from basic training for those joining as RAF Logistics (Mover) or Army Movements personnel to specialist advanced courses. There really are some superb facilities here for the training of new Movers, and for those on advanced courses. These include realistic aircraft simulators, together with the latest virtual reality computer programmes.

NO 1 AIR MOBILITY WING

Then we move on to see the results of the training given to RAF movements personnel. No 1 Air Mobility Wing is the RAF Movements Profession’s High Readiness Air Combat Service Support Unit (ACSSU) and the key Air Mobility early-entry enabler for the provision of Air Movements capability for operations in the full range of single-Service, joint or multinational environments.  Incorporating UKMAMS, this quick reaction force is at varying degrees of readiness providing tactical air movements specialists who are capable of rapid deployment worldwide, to provide facilities where none exist or to reinforce existing ones. Always “First In and Last Out”, UKMAMS personnel are at the forefront of any air mobility deployment and feature regularly in worldwide operations.

The plan is to arrive at RAF Brize Norton’s main entrance at 0945 hrs on Thursday 3 April. Visitors must be in possession of photographic identity (UK Passport of photo Driving Licence). To book a place on this visit, please complete the online booking form providing the required details. Lunch will be provided – Cost approx £20.00.

Dress – As lunch will be taken in the Officers’ Mess, you are asked to wear smart casual clothing (but bring suitable waterproof/windproof clothing as some of the visit will be outdoors).

Please note – visitors must arrive by 0945 or entry cannot be guaranteed.

Lunch will be provided – Cost approx £20.00.

The deadline for applications will be Monday 24 March 2025 when a draw will be done.  There are only 20 places available. Priority will be given to those who have not been on recent military visits. Please note rail travel is not feasible for this trip.
