Step Into History: A Journey Through the Battlefields of Normandy

Join us on an unforgettable five-day journey through the heart of one of the most pivotal chapters in modern history. Walk the windswept shores of British & American Beaches, stand amongst the solemn white crosses of the Omaha American Cemetery, and trace the heroic steps of the Allied forces who changed the course of World War II. From the historic streets of Sainte-Mère-Église to the engineering marvels at Arromanches, this thoughtfully curated tour offers deep insight, powerful stories, and a chance to honour the legacy of courage and sacrifice that defined D-Day. This is more than a tour—it’s a crossing into the soul of history.

You’ll travel in comfort aboard a Lodge Coaches executive coach to Dover for our crossing to Calais before continuing  our journey to Normandy.   Early evenng we arrive at the Ibis hotel in Port en Bessin, known for its clean, modern air conditioned rooms and welcoming atmosphere—your ideal base for historical exploration

Visit Sainte-Mère-Église
Explore the first town liberated by U.S. paratroopers and see the iconic church where John Steele famously hung suspended from the steeple.

Discover the Airborne Museum before continning on to the Dead man’s corner Museum, gain deep insight into the airborne landings and amphibious assaults with authentic artifacts, immersive exhibits, and personal stories.

Pay Tribute at the Omaha American Cemetery.
Reflect among nearly 10,000 white crosses and Stars of David overlooking Omaha Beach. A deeply moving and unforgettable experience.

Explore Arromanches & the Mulberry Harbour.
See how Allied ingenuity built a temporary port to sustain the invasion, brought to life at the D-Day Landings Museum.

British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer.
Visit the recently opened tribute to the 22,442 British servicemen and women who gave their lives during the Battle of Normandy.

Visit Pegasus Bridge, where D-Day began.

During your visit, you’ll explore the Pegasus Bridge Museum, which tells the story of the operation through original artifacts, gliders, and personal accounts. You’ll also see the original bridge, now preserved nearby, and walk the path taken by the soldiers who helped shape the outcome of the war.

It’s a moving and memorable stop—an essential piece of the D-Day story.

As we explore the beautiful region of Normandy, we’ll enjoy regular stops to stretch our legs, take comfort breaks, and savor a relaxing lunch. Along the way, Robert will share his extensive knowledge of the area, highlighting points of interest and bringing the history and landscape to life.

Tour Itinerary: Normandy – Crossing Into History

Day 1: Departure to Normandy – Crossing Into History

Morning:
Board your private Lodge Coaches vehicle and begin your journey to Dover. Cross the English Channel with P&O Ferries to Calais—enjoy breakfast on board as you sail toward the coast of France.

Afternoon:
Continue south through the scenic landscapes of northern France, arriving in historic Normandy. Check in at the Ibis Hotel, Port-en-Bessin, perfectly situated between Omaha and Gold Beaches—an ideal base for exploring the D-Day landing zones.

Evening:
Stroll the harbour of Port-en-Bessin, once a key Allied supply point. Dine at your leisure in one of the town’s charming seafood restaurants or traditional French bistros.

Day 2: Sainte-Mère-Église and Utah Beach – The Airborne Legacy

Morning:
Visit Sainte-Mère-Église, the first town liberated by American troops. Tour the Airborne Museum, dedicated to the heroic efforts of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. Don’t miss the famous church where paratrooper John Steele was caught on the steeple.

Afternoon:
Travel to Utah Beach, where the U.S. 4th Infantry Division landed with minimal resistance. Visit the Utah Beach Landing Museum, built around a preserved German bunker.

Evening:
Return to Port-en-Bessin. Your evening is free to explore or dine at a recommended local restaurant with historic ambiance.

Day 3: Omaha Beach and the American Sacrifice


Morning:
Experience the solemn and powerful Omaha Beach, site of the fiercest D-Day fighting. Walk the sands where U.S. forces overcame overwhelming odds.

Midday:
Visit the Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. Reflect among 9,387 graves and the Wall of the Missing. If schedule allows, witness the moving flag-lowering ceremony.

Afternoon:
Explore the Dead Man’s Corner Museum in Carentan for insight into the brutal close-quarters battles fought in Normandy’s hedgerows and causeways.

Evening:
Evening at leisure in Port-en-Bessin—ideal for unwinding and reflecting on the day’s experiences.

Day 4: British Landings and D-Day’s Aftermath

Morning:
Visit Arromanches-les-Bains, the heart of the British sector. See the remains of the Mulberry Harbour and tour the D-Day Landings Museum, which tells the story of Allied engineering brilliance.

Late Morning:
Travel to the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer, honouring over 22,000 British service personnel who fell during the Battle of Normandy.

Afternoon:
Continue to Bayeux, the first major town liberated by Allied forces. Choose between visiting the Bayeux War Cemetery or viewing the legendary Bayeux Tapestry (entry not included).

Evening:
Enjoy your final evening in Port-en-Bessin with time for a farewell meal or a quiet walk along the harbour.

Day 5: Return Journey – Homeward Bound

Morning:
Depart Port-en-Bessin after breakfast and begin your return journey north through France.

Midday:
Cross the Channel via P&O Ferries or Le Shuttle and enjoy onboard facilities.

Afternoon:
Arrive back at your original departure point, carrying home unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of the bravery and sacrifice that shaped modern history.
