Spencer Klymyshyn is an accomplished pianist whose studies were adversely affected by Covid-19. Widening its charitable remit, the Carmen Benevolent Trust (the “Trust”) established a scholarship to help a promising young musician to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama; Spencer is being assisted through this bursary.
The Trust showed valuable support when its then-Chairman, Past Master Neil Coles, and trustee Chris Godbold, together with Spencer’s parents, attended a piano recital at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The recital was the final assessment for a Guildhall Artist Master in Performance qualification for which Spencer had been studying. Given under examination conditions, only a few supporters were able to attend.
This qualification prepares students for entry to the musical profession at the highest level. The course is about developing students as individuals, insightful musicians and practitioners; about self-challenging and taking risks within their field of expertise. It provides the technical facility and musical flexibility to explore and refine individual artistic character.
Guildhall School provides a learning environment that enables students to recognise and nurture their strengths, as well as many opportunities for professional exposure.
Teaching staff include world-class performers and innovative practitioners, enabling students to learn from internationally-renowned conductors and artists and perform in some of the UK’s finest venues. Final recitals are assessed by leading experts.
Everyone involved was delighted to learn that Spencer came through his assessment with a First Class Master’s degree. He said that he could not have performed at this level without the help he has received from the Trust.
The trustees are always open to new ideas that will provide new opportunities for students.
