Learn how to make your own “didukh” and take you runique creation home. It will be truly be a talking point.
During the New Year and Christmas holidays, Ukrainians create a special decoration called “didukh,” a wheat sheaf made from the last stalks of wheat harvested. It may also include oats, flax, and rye. According to tradition, Joseph used a sheaf to seal a crack in the stable where Jesus was born, symbolizing warmth and comfort. Ukrainians place the didukh in their homes as soon as the first Christmas star appears, bringing a festive mood and a sense of family unity. After the holidays, the didukh is kept as a symbol of Christmas and a link between generations.
