We visit a Bus Factory, ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, visit Scarborough Fair Museum and complete the trip with a behind the scenes visit to Mathewson’s Auction Rooms and meet Derek Mathewson of TV’s Bangers & Cash.
We arrive individually on Sunday afternoon/evening to enjoy this 4 day/3 night tour embracing all things transport related.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Sunday 28th April 2024 – Members to make own arrangements for travel to Pickering, arriving at our hotel, the Best Western Forest & Vale Hotel to check in with time to relax, meeting in the bar for drinks before an included 3 course dinner at 7pm.
Day 2 – Monday 29th April 2024 – Following a leisurely breakfast, we make our way to Mathewson’s Auction Rooms (Bangers & Cash). The auction rooms are usually closed to the public but we are privileged to have a private tour today. You will have time to meet fellow Carmen Derek Mathewson and his family and view the cars for the upcoming May auction and even have your picture taken on the famous rostrum! From here we then travel the short distance to the picturesque village of Thornton-le-Dale, home of Mathewson’s Garage, Museum & Shop. Time in Thornton-le-Dale to wander round and visit one of the many tea shops to purchase lunch before we make our way back to Pickering for an included ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, only a short walk from the hotel to Pickering Station, where you can board the train. You may want to stop off at Goathland station to explore the village made famous by its use as the setting for TVs Heartbeat – maybe even enjoy a pint in the Aidensfield Arms before heading back to the hotel in time for dinner.
Day 3 – Tuesday 30th April 2024 – After breakfast, we will be collected by coach from our hotel for the journey to Scarborough and a rare opportunity to visit the Alexander Dennis (ADL) Bus & Coach Factory where we will be given a tour of the production line. After the tour we rejoin the coach for the short journey into Scarborough and free time for lunch before taking a tour of the Scarborough Fair Museum set in the scenic grounds of the Flower of May Holiday Park, on the coast road between Scarborough and Filey. The Collection hosts a magnificent working selection of vintage cars, steam engines, vintage fairground rides and mechanical organs topped off with a ‘Mighty’ Wurlitzer Organ in the spacious ballroom. Return to the hotel for dinner.
