This is your chance to visit three unique units based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
Whilst the Defence Movements Training Squadron is a Carmen’s affiliated unit, there is also the opportunity to visit the United Kingdom Mobile Air Movements Squadron and 47 Air Despatch Squadron RLC.
Defence Movements Training Squadron. Some years ago, the Carmen became formally affiliated with the Defence Movements School, now the Defence Movements Training Squadron, part of the Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration. The Squadron is primarily responsible for RAF and Army movements training but also has trainees from all of the Services including overseas students and some civilians. The squadron annually delivers 43 courses to approximately 2,000 students from basic training for those joining as RLC Movement Controllers and RAF Logistics (Movements) personnel to specialist advancement courses.
United Kingdom Mobile Air Movements Squadron (UKMAMS). No 1 Air Mobility Wing is the RAF Movements Profession’s High Readiness Air Combat Service Support Unit (ACSSU). This quick reaction force is at varying degrees of readiness providing tactical air movements specialists who are capable of rapid deployment worldwide, to provide facilities where none exist or to reinforce existing ones. Always ‘First in and Last out’, UKMAMS personnel are at the forefront of any air mobility deployment and featured heavily during Op PITTING, the emergency evacuation from Afghanistan.
47 Air Despatch Squadron RLC. This is a visit to one of the niche specialisations within the Royal Logistics Corps. Supporting all three Services, the Special Forces and other Government agencies in aerial delivery, Air Despatchers are responsible for preparing, loading and despatching supplies and equipment from the RAF transport aircraft. Proudly wearing their Air Despatch wings and their historic yellow Dakota insignia, these Air Despatchers are amongst the most skilled and brave soldiers within the Corps. This visit is a rare opportunity to see and hear what this unique unit is all about.
The day will begin at 10.00am. Please arrive at the main entrance with photographic ID (UK Passport or Driving Licence). Please note you must arrive by 10.00am or entry cannot be guaranteed.
Lunch will be provided at a cost of approximately £20 which will be paid at the time. As Lunch will be in the Officers’ Mess, the dress code is Smart Casual but please bring suitable waterproof/windproof clothing as some of the visit is outdoors.
