Now in its fifth year, the Coopers’ Cask Race has become recognised as the City’s premier sporting event. Teams of four from livery companies, ward clubs, civic bodies, and corporate sponsors compete in a fast-paced contest of strength, skill, and teamwork, rolling full-sized casks across the cobbles of Guildhall Yard in pursuit of the championship title.
The race combines tradition, rivalry, and fellowship in one of the most spirited occasions of the livery year. Alongside the main competition, children are invited to take part in the popular Mini Coopers Race, rolling smaller casks (pins) in a safe and family-friendly contest.
The Master is putting together a team to take part in this year’s Coopers’ Cask Race at Guildhall. Practice takes place from 8.30am with the first official race at 9.30am. Fancy dress and team colours are strongly encouraged. If you wish to take part, please contact the Deputy Clerk to secure your place on the team(s). There can be more than one team per Company.
8.30am – Registration opens & practice rolling being
9.20am – Health and Safety briefing
9.25am – Blessing of the casks and opening remarks
9.30am – Racing begins
12.15pm – Prize giving
12.30pm – Depart Guildhall for drinks nearby
